Silver Pines Vineyards

Silver Pines Vineyards are located at the Western edge of the Sonoma Mountain appellation at approximately 980 feet above sea level and are surrounded by proven premium vineyards, as well as on the North-facing slopes of the Bennett Valley AVA.

The climate, soil, and water supply are ideal for the three varietals grown on the 12-acre site; Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Pinot Noir. The local Bennett Valley climate is unique with warm sunny days moderated by an ocean breeze that travels through the Petaluma gap and enters the valley through the Grange Road gap. Late night and early morning fog is common, coming either from the west or from the south through the Carneros and southern Sonoma Valley. With the 2005 vintage we are labeling our wines with the new Bennett Valley designation to more sharply differentiate our wines from our neighbors on Sonoma Mountain.

Philip Staley Vineyards & Winery

Philip Staley started in the realm of wine as a perfectly happy consumer, switching from gin and tonic to a glass of white wine before dinner, exploring the vast array of varieties and origins, and then starting to collect wines. In the early seventies he started making wine as a hobby. Someplace along the way Philip seems to have started losing his focus on the concept of the word "hobby", and then in 1981 he abandoned the hobby aspect altogether and became one of the founding partners and the winemaker at Alderbrook Winery.

During those early years of trying every different wine he could find, Philip discovered the wonderful wines of the France's Rhone Valley. These varieties, Syrah, Grenache, Viognier and several more esoteric varieties, were sparsely planted in California, if at all. While making wines at Alderbrook, a strong interest developed to do a Rhone project in California. So, in 1988 Philip and Pam bought twenty acres of gravely hillside land over the Russian River, and in 1990 they planted it to the Rhone varieties and became two of the original "Rhone Rangers". In 1993 Philip left his position as Alderbrook's winemaker and he and Pam started Philip Staley Vineyards & Winery.

The wines of Philip Staley Vineyards & Winery have, for fifteen years, been marketed mainly to restaurants around the country. With the opening of Plaza Farms, on the square in the town of Healdsburg, the wines are for the first time easily available to the public. We still focus on the wines of the Rhone, Syrah, Grenache, Viognier, and a blended Rhone Style Red wine. In addition, however, we offer three white wines with origins in the Bordeaux region, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and a Graves style blend called Duet. We hope you will have the opportunity to try them all!
